Insecurity: Tinubu Halts Trip to G20, AU-EU Summits

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has put his planned trips to the G20 Summit in Johannesburg and the AU-EU Summit in Luanda on hold after a new surge of deadly violence in Kebbi and Kwara states.

In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Wednesday in Abuja. It explained that President Tinubu postponed his trip because of the recent attacks in Kebbi and the bandits’ assault on worshippers at Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Kwara State.

It added that Tinubu is waiting for updates from Vice President Kashim Shettima, who visited Kebbi on his behalf, as well as reports from the police and the Department of State Services on the Kwara incident.

The President also repeated his order to security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the 24 kidnapped schoolgirls and ensure they return home safely.

“The President considers the safety of Nigerians a top priority and will remain in the country to monitor security developments,” the statement noted.

This is the second major interruption to Tinubu’s foreign travel plans in recent months due to internal security concerns, further highlighting the pressure on the administration to curb rising attacks across several states.

Security operations in Kebbi and Kwara are ongoing, with residents hoping for swift rescue efforts and improved protection going forward.
